Brief Description

The GEF-8 (the eighth replenishment of resources of the GEF Trust Fund) Programming Directions (2022-2026) stipulated a strategy addressing pollution reduction related to plastic pollution especially in the Chemicals and Waste Focal Area, Circular Solutions to Plastic Pollution Integrated Program, Clean and Healthy Ocean Integrated Program, Sustainable Cities Integrated Program. The GEF has emphasized public-private partnerships in its regional and national investments to implement the strategy.

The GEF has funded several projects during the GEF-7 and GEF-8 (mainly Integrated Programme) period which directly and indirectly address marine plastic litter issues (introduced in questionnaire 3), building on previous investments, analyses and partnerships to address the lifecycle of marine plastics with targeted interventions that emphasize circular solutions, public-private partnerships and on the ground investments.
